Two

The wood was passing by the car like a black shadow, hardly distinctive in the headlight. It was past midnight, and Natalie wanted to reach the town as quickly as possible. She wasn't very keen of driving, and this night ride frightened her. Radio was playing dome cheerful song, but her mood was rather somber.

She wasn't going to have any fellow-travelers, but when she saw a man waving, her foot pressed the brake. Within the second she could see him she noticed blood on his white shirt. "Oh god, he need help!" she thought. She pulled up to him, got out of the car and helped him get in.

He was about 25 years old, although he looked a little older, he said his name was Ivan and that he was hit by a car. He asked to take him to a hospital. The girl agreed. She took the medikit and carefully got up speed. Natalie did quite believe that guy, but she was kindhearted and couldn't leave him bleed there on the road. Continuing the ride, she squinted on him.

Ivan had short dark hair and stern features. He wore a white shirt, old jeans and cheap boots. He was watching the road disappear under the wheels, and little by little Natalie calmed down. They were going uphill when the guy suddenly lost consciousness and began falling aside. Natalie looked at him reached out her hand. At that moment a lorry appeared from the corner, honking and dazzling with the lights. Natalie screamed and turned the wheel. Her car moved to the ditch and on to the wood. Crashing into a tree, the car turned upside down and froze still...

...He woke up because of pain in his chest. All his body ached, one cheek was swelled. He was lying in the car. The girl that picked him up was lying near him. Her face was very pale... Ivan frightened when he saw blood on his shirt, but he smiled, remembering it was not his blood. He slowly got out of the car and staggered to his feet. Going over the car, he came to the driver door and looked through the window. The girl was still alive. Her chest moved weakly, and her eyes stared at him without any sense. She sobbed from time to time, blood was flowing from her broken nose down her cheek. Ivan took her by the shoulders and tried to pull her out through the shattered window, but she was stuck. Her spine was probably broken. She was suffering...

Suddenly he realized she wouldn't survive. He felt sympathy, for the first time on that day, but he made up his mind. He took off his belt and tied it over her neck, moving aside her fair bloodstain hair. "Just hold still, baby," he told her, and caressed her cheek. The girl sobbed, and leaning against her chest, he fastened the noose.

So he sat for a few long minutes, unable to stand up. Her dead eyes were gazing in the starry sky. He closed them and, lit by the car light, it looked so peaceful. The guy looked at her, stuck by her beauty, then he took a knife out of his pocket. He hesitated, and the plunged it into his neck, trying to get the artery. Then he fell on the ground that was absorbing his blood. Two within one night were too much for him.
